Call for Proposals

The 2019 Program Committee invites current students in graduate programs in music to submit proposals for 20- or 30-minute presentations.  Submissions from advanced undergraduates will also be considered. Proposals for papers already published or presented at national conferences are ineligible.

Proposal submissions should include:

1.           A cover email with the author’s name and email address, the title of the proposed paper, the author’s school affiliation and current program of study, and whether the author wishes 20 or 30 minutes to present her/his paper.

2.           A proposal of no more than 500 words, including footnotes or endnotes.  Proposals may be accompanied by a maximum of two pages of illustrations (e.g., musical examples, diagrams) and a maximum of one page of bibliography. The proposal and optional accompanying material must be combined into a single PDF file, which should be attached to the cover email. The title for the file must be named as follows, with the paper’s short title substituting for “shorttitle”: Proposal_shorttitle.pdf.  The author’s name must be omitted from all documents and from the properties for the file.

3.           An abstract of no more than 250 words, suitable for printing in the meeting program. Create a separate PDF file for the abstract and attach it to the cover email. The title for the file must be named as follows, with the paper’s short title substituting for “shorttitle”: Abstract_shorttitle.pdf. The author’s name must be omitted from all documents and from the properties for the file.

4.           A list of audio-visual equipment necessary for the presentation. Mannes will provide an acoustic piano and playback equipment.

The cover email and two attachments (proposal and abstract) should be emailed to Steve Smith at smithsw@newschool.edu no later than Thursday November 1, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. EST.  Proposals will be read by the 2019 Program Committee, which consists of members of the Mannes Techniques of Music faculty. All proposals will be evaluated anonymously
